I used to love Golden Corral. I could easily find numerous dinner combinations that were quality food and delicious. That was over a decade ago. With the years our trips to GC have grown further and further apart because the prices have gone up and the quality has spiraled downward. Tonight was our first trip in over a year. I had reservations when my wife mentioned GC but I decided to roll the dice to see if by some miraculous turn of events GC had reverted back to its golden days. Sadly, we discovered a horse that should've been put out of its misery years ago. We went at 5:45 pm which seemed like a safe bet for the freshest food. It started with the sticker SHOCK of $32 for two adults and one child with a soft drink. The three of us could have a meal at Outback that resembled quality food for that amount! Next came the worst part--the food. When I start debating if getting the picked over food from a church potluck was more desirable than what I saw in front of me at GC there is a serious issue. Almost none of the food had any smell. The mashed potatoes had the consistency of paste. The french fries were soggy. The rolls were half rock hard from sitting under the food lamp too long. The ham was beyond dry. The only thing remotely edible, other than items from the salad bar, was the steak, but even that had too much salt. After eating only a fraction of what I picked up I decided to go get a dessert, usually a safe bet at GC. I chose to have a very appealing looking piece of chocolate cake. That ended up being the final mistake of my night at GC. I have no clue what ingredients went into that cake but I am convinced many of them wouldn't be found in any reputable chocolate cake recipe. I gave up trying to down it after three bites. It was 99% artificial and eating cardboard seemed about as desirable as eating the cake. If I owned this Golden Corral I would be standing by the exit apologizing to customers as they left for the garbage that they had to ingest. I would also be giving them complementary Pepto Bismol tablets (which I have already run through half a dozen tonight). The only positive thing I can say about my experience is I didn't put away anywhere near the calories I do normally at a buffet. Then again I could have done that by just listening to the small voice in my head telling me to just say "NO" to Golden Corral and would have saved the $32. RIP Golden Corral. That $32 was the last money you will be getting from me.

Sad to say, Golden Corral has really gone down hill...and fast. I understand this is a buffet and it caters in bulk however the food is awful. After Furrs closed, I was sure this would be a big boost for GC and I expected to see bigger and better menu items. Nope, same old, boring menu. This review was brought on, by today's visit. We arrived at nearly 2pm on a Saturday. The stations had empty trays. There was no meat, except for dry bacon and dry chicken. People walking around with empty plates waiting for the trays to be filled up. The salad bar was the highlight, at least it was full. The Mexican/ Chinese food looked as if it had been under the heat lamps all day. Our server was a magician, she kept disappearing. The managers on duty looked bothered and bored. No one had a sense of urgency, it was just another day. The carpet was filthy, and many of the tables were pulled high with dirty dishes. Both bathrooms were filthy and disgusting. GROSS! Bring back the old Manager Tawanda, she ran a tight ship.

Lots of variety. Super yummy food. Very nice service. Good price. Only cons, the bathrooms were really really hot, there wasn't much a/c in there. And they had a huge banner that said Support The Troops, but they did not offer a military discount??

Ok, you know me, I don't review chains that often. Heck I don't patronize chains very often. But sometimes they just fit the bill, and sometimes they leave you with an experience that you feel compelled to relate to others. Our recent trip to the local Golden Corral is a good example. GC is the place we take the family when we just don't know what else to do but don't feel like spending a ton of money. And most of the time they deliver exactly what you expect... lowest common denominator comfort food. And that's perfectly fine, because that's all I expect. But that isn't what this review is about. No, this is about how this particular GC failed to deliver. Service: 3/5 Again I will relate my #1 complaint with buffet restaurants. Why do the bussers have to get me drink refills? This is totally unnecessary. Put a dispenser where we can all get to it, and leave it at that. Let the bussers worry about clearing the plates. And maybe hire a few more people instead to cook and fill the food stations. Food: 3/5 As I said at the beginning, nothing here will impress you. But if you take it for what it is, you will be satisfied. For what they do, they do it well. You can fill up on pizza, fried chicken, salads, etc. to your heart's content, and most of it is decent. It isn't five-star dining, but that isn't why you are here, is it? :P Overall Impressions: 1/5 Ok, here's why I'm really writing this review. We came in at about 7pm on a Saturday. Closing time was posted as 10:30. When we arrived there were already a couple of empty food areas and by the looks of them they had been empty for some time. Some of these did not get refilled in the entire time we were there, which was nearly an hour. This is unacceptable for a buffet. I get that you want to save on "food costs," but closing stuff off more than two hours before closing? When the restaurant still has tons of people in it? Not cool at all. We sat across from the pizza "station" and I saw the guy drop cooking implements on at least three separate occasions. All three times he simply picked the item up and placed it back on the workspace. Not once was the item removed or even washed. Needless to say I avoided the pizza that night. Highly unprofessional behavior, especially considering how visible it is to customers. Of particular note was the dessert area. It was a total and complete disaster. The cobbler pans were empty and crusted over they had been sitting idle so long. There were no cones for ice cream. One of the soft serve dispensers was completely out of order. And the "chocolate wonderfall," that was their key promotion at the moment was not functioning either. Again, for these many things to be inaccessible this far from closing is totally unacceptable. They charge $10 for dinner at this place. For $10 I should have access to everything you have to offer, not what you choose to serve several hours before closing. So all in all, buyer beware at this GC. It feels like they really cut corners at this place. Both Empire and Cici's are better run buffets. I haven't tried the Furr's yet, but I don't do these kinds of places often.

Oh wow. We came here for a luncheon for my family. totally inexpensive, but you get what you pay for. The food was self-serve, buffet and the quality of food was terrible. I couldn't eat about 3/4 of it. Stuck w/ veggies/salads and bread. The shrimp looked pretty sickly and God forbid don't touch the pre-made salads. Several of my family god sick, most likely b/c they had one of those or even the chicken. Do not think I will go to this one again. There is another on in LC that was better than this one, well at least 5 years ago it was, not even sure its still there anymore - the other one. Very disappointed. stay away.

Downshift into waddle, it's another buffet! Unlike most of my previous Yelps in Las Cruces, this was not an eagerly awaited visit. Golden Corral, to me, has always been, well... Golden Corral--mediocre, hit-or-miss buffet-style comfort food for when you need cheap fuel, and your body's grease level is somewhat depleted. (I.e. hangover) Today's visit was possibly the result of a residual hangover, since I didn't drink last night, but did consume perhaps a gallon or two of rum the night before. However the reasoning, Golden Corral was the suggested fare with which to start the day, and there we have it... I did make the mistake of not wearing sweatpants, or other adjustable-waist "comfy-pants" to this venue, but otherwise the overall experience was exactly what I'd expected from Corral D'oro... The food was, true to its consistency, hit-or-miss. I did pile my plate ridiculously full, because I did arrive famished. The eggs were OK, the bacon was OK; I had two mini-quiche that were pretty good, both spinach AND bacon/cheese. The CFS was disgustingly delicious (Country-fried Steak, for the uninitiated), and there was a potato/bacon/cheese casserole that was pretty darn good! Come to think of it, as I write this review a full four hours after my visit; the food coma having worn off, pretty much everything on my plate the first buffet round was some sort of potato/cheese amalgamation. I also had some pretty good bacon strips (is it actually possible to screw those up?) and some uninspiring sausage-- a trifecta of link, smoked, and patty. Greasy mediocrity, at its mediocre best! One thing I can say about the place is that there's a ton of variety. There were stations my quickly-quenched appetite didn't give me opportunity to explore. I missed the Mexican section, but my perusal offered me a look at some nice looking tamales, and intriguing enchiladas. I also didn't partake of the salad station, though the offerings looked decent (excepting the shrimp, which looked like a bowlful of salmonella). Overall, the offerings of this establishment were filling, and unremarkable. One station that did stand out as sucking was the maple section--pancakes, French toast, et al... Just cold, rubbery and tired. As mentioned before, my visit was not terrible. I managed to gluttonize myself into a waddling stupor, and made it home just in time as the carbs burned off and I fell into a happy slumber... Will I be back? LOL, what do you think? Oh, yeah-- Lest I leave out the staff was very friendly and attentive. In fact, because of them I'm bumping up my 2 stars to three.

I have to admit that it was my fault when I over calculated the amount of people joining me for breakfast. It was a very large group; so when I noticed the mistake I went and asked for my money back and they refused. I had to argue with the manager over a total of $11. Seriously? cheap people can't refund for one person? As usual the food wasn't great but it is a buffet so I can't really complain about it all that much; except that they were always out of bacon...Isn't bacon a staple for breakfast? Not impressed. Customer service is they key to everything. It can turn a nasty meal into something semi decent.

Dirty, dirty, dirty. Like almost all buffets people are pigs. But the job of the restaurant is to keep the place clean. GC doesn't. No mas.

Adequate food - particularly the salad bar - but they should have some rotisserie chicken ALL the time, even on steak night. The fried chicken was good, but I wanted rotisserie. Hubby's piece of steak was good---the veggies are always good, and the rolls are good---but they should be near the bakery, not stuck over against a wall where they can be missed. HIRE SOME BUSSERS!!!! Tables should not sit dirty and piled with dirty dishes for up to 30 minutes at a time!!!
